Gazette notification issued for elections to five MLC seats in Andhra Pradesh

Elections for five MLA quota seats in AP Legislative Council set for March 20, 2024, with detailed election process outlined.
The stage has been set for elections to five MLA quota seats in the AP Legislative Council with the publication of a gazette notification on Monday.
These seats are falling vacant due to the retirement of Duvvarapu Rama Rao, Paruchuri Ashok Babu, B. Tirumala Naidu and Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. Another seat of Janga Krishna Murthy had been vacant since May 15, 2024.
The Election Commission of India announced the elections last week.
The election will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 20 and the last date of filing nominations is March 10.
Nominations will be scrutinized on March 11. Last date for withdrawing the candidatures is March 13.
The counting of votes will begin at 5 p.m. on the day of polling i.e. March 20. The election process is to be completed by March 24.
The ECI has, in consultation with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, designated AP Legislature Secretariat (APLS) Deputy Secretary R. Vanitha Rani as the returning officer.
