The Department of Public Works announces tender for Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road development project under EPC model, costing ₹481.94 crore.
The Department of Public Works has announced that the tendering process for the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road development project will begin this month. The department has sanctioned the tender under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model.
The total expenditure for the project is estimated at ₹481.94 crore, of which ₹344.5 crore has already been sanctioned in various stages for land acquisition. An administrative sanction of ₹137.44 crore has been made for road construction.
Since the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road crosses NH66, and the National Highways Authority is developing a 3 km stretch from Malapparamba to Vellimadukunnu as part of NH766, the PWD only has to develop the 5 km stretch from Mananchira to Malapparamba. The road will be 24 metres wide, featuring four lanes, a two-metre median, and a seven-metre carriageway on both sides. There will also be 1.5-metre-wide pavements and two-metre-wide footpaths on both sides. Streetlights and traffic signals at junctions are included in the project.
Utility ducts will be placed every 250 metres under the road and connected to accommodate cables and pipelines. A foot overbridge will be constructed near the civil station.
The contract includes a 15-year maintenance period in addition to road construction. The project is expected to be completed within one and a half years.
