Madurai Commissioner of Police pats auto driver for restoring 15 sovereigns of gold to passenger

Auto driver Nagendran honoured by Madurai Police Commissioner for returning lost bag with 15 gold sovereigns to passenger.
Auto driver Nagendran, 52, was honoured by Madurai City Commissioner of Police, J. Loganathan, for his honesty in restoring a bag containing 15 sovereigns of gold to a passenger who had left it in his auto, on Monday.
According to police, one Saravanakumar, 56, of Thavittu Santhai, had engaged an auto to go to Teppakulam on Sunday. On getting down, he had realised that he had absent-mindedly left a bag containing the gold and a mobile phone in the auto.
He rushed to the Teppakulam police station and lodged a complaint.
Meanwhile, the autodriver from Kochadai, had noticed the bag left in his vehicle.
He then rushed back to Mahal area from where he had taken the passenger looking for him to hand over the bag.
Meanwhile, the police managed to track the driver and called him over his mobile phone. The driver told the police that he had the bag with the valuables and went to Teppakulam and handed it over to the owner in the presence of the police.
The Commissioner appreciated the auto driver’s exemplary behaviour and gave him a cash reward of ₹1,000.
