Implementation of drinking water projects, UGD discussed at DISHA meeting

Discussion on major development projects, including drinking water, drainage, and parking systems, at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting.
Implementation of the Mullaperiyar drinking water project undertaken under the AMRUT scheme, underground drainage works and parking system were some of the major issues discussed at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the Madurai Collectorate on Monday.
The meeting reviewed the progress of various development projects being implemented in the district with the funding of the Central government.
Presiding over the meeting, Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan discussed the stages and progress made so far in the implementation of various schemes and projects. He urged the officials to expedite the development projects.
The implementation of the drinking water project under AMRUT scheme and the progress made so far under the Jal Jeevan Mission were discussed. A common complaint raised at the meeting was with regard to the roads dug up for laying the pipelines not being restored properly.
The officials were told that they should ensure that the roads that were dug up should be restored to their original state and all the Departments concerned should work in tandem.
Issues with regard to implementation of the underground drainage works at Tirupparankundram and Tirumangalam were discussed and the authorities were urged to expedite the works.
Mr. Venkatesan asked the authorities to look at the feasibility of implementing FASTag based parking in the city particularly around Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple.
