Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin increases financial aid for fishermen affected by Sri Lankan Navy, urges lasting solution.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday announced that the financial assistance provided to owners of boats seized by the Sri Lankan Navy would be increased from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh.
According to an official release, Mr. Stalin also announced that the financial aid granted to families of the fishermen in Sri Lankan prisons would be increased from ₹350 a day to ₹500 a day. The announcements were made a few hours after Mr. Stalin’s official events in Nagapattinam district during which he interacted with representatives of various fishermen associations, including some of them at the Nambiyar Nagar small fishing harbour.
The Chief Minister also instructed MPs from Tamil Nadu to meet the Union Minister for External Affairs and urge him to find a lasting solution to the problems faced by fishermen from Tamil Nadu at the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy. A delegation with the Minister for Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, MPs from Tamil Nadu, non-official members and representatives from various fishermen associations would soon meet the Union Minister for External Affairs, the release said.
