
Mangaluru teacher selected as trainer for national team

Special educator Soumya Devadiga selected as coach for Indian team in Special Olympics Winter Games in Italy.
Special educator Soumya Devadiga, 33, from Mangaluru has been selected as a coach of the Indian contingent, which will take part in the Special Olympics Winter Games to be held in Italy from March 8 to March 15.
Ms. Devadiga is among the three coaches of eight-member Indian team that will take part in the Floorball, a hockey-type team sport, in the Winter Games.
Indian sportspersons will also take part in Snow Boarding, Snow Shoe, Alpine Skating, Cross Country, and Figure Skating events in the Winter Games. A 78-member Indian contingent will shortly fly to Italy, Ms. Devadiga told reporters in Mangaluru.
Ms. Devadiga has been working as special educator in Lions Special School in Surathkal since last 10 years. She was head coach of Karnataka State floor hockey team that took part in national special games competition held in Kerala in 2018. She took part in Unified Football national tournament for special children in 2022 in Ahmedabad as coach of the Karnataka’s football team, she said.
