Ahead of the 24th Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) party congress to be held in Madurai from April 2 to 6, senior leaders launched a website and released a song here on Monday.
CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanumugam, central committee member K. Balakrishnan, Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan, and CPI(M) State executive committee member ‘Madukkur’ S. Ramalingam, along with party cadre, unveiled the website for the national event.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Shanmugam said the website would enable the public to share their thoughts regarding any pressing issues or suggestions. “The suggestions registered on the website will be used by the party to rectify and develop ourselves,” he added.
At a time when the law of the land was taking dramatic turns based on the changes being made by the ruling BJP government, the event will serve as a beacon of hope for the disillusioned, Mr. Shanmugam said.
Mr. Balakrishnan said the week-long event was expected to strengthen the Left parties in the coming days to fight against the Hindutva ideology. “Instead of developing the economy and promoting brotherhood among people, the BJP government is blatantly trying to create a divide among people of different beliefs,” he added.
Hoping to create a divide between Hindus and Muslims in Tamil Nadu, the BJP tried to politicise the Tirupparankundram temple issue, but to their surprise, the people of Madurai gave them a fitting reply that they would not be bothered by religious politics, Mr. Balakrishnan said.
Mr. Venkatesan, praising the party cadre for creating a video that appealed to all generations, said the Communists had always believed in modernity and made use of scientific technologies for the well-being of society. “Communist party cadre possess a natural talent for being a campaigner. As we are armed with weapons of philosophies and communist ideology, we are using the social media platform to propagate these ideas and educate people,” he added.
