The accident occurred at 5.30 a.m. on the arterial road. The police said the car was being driven by its owner Ravindran, of Luz Avenue, Mylapore. Personnel from the Mylapore police station arrived at the spot, put the fire out, and moved the vehicle — which was fully gutted in the fire — to the side of the road.
The police have registered a case, and said the preliminary report suggested that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the battery.
