Residents seek closure of liquor outlet in Coimbatore
Residents of Nethaji Puram in Madukkarai Taluk have petitioned for the removal of a private bar in their locality, citing disruptions to daily life and safety concerns.
On Monday, over 50 people from the neighbourhood submitted a petition to the District Collector.
A resident stated, “More than 500 families reside near the liquor outlet, and the area has around 10 colleges. This is a highly commutable zone, and within a 10 km radius, this is the only private bar. Since its recent opening, there has been an increase in accidents and vehicular movement from outside the locality. Individuals without money have been stopping passersby to demand cash. The presence of an anganwadi nearby, along with the impact on residential areas, has further raised concerns. The bar operates from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., affecting the normalcy of life in the area, so we request the immediate removal of the outlet.”
