Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot lauded the State Government’s impressive performance on various fronts and said the administration has disproved many predictions that Karnataka would lag behind in development and the financial system would deteriorate owing to implementation of the ambitious ‘guarantee’ schemes.
In his address to the joint session of the State legislature, the Governor said the State Government is developing a unique model of development, one that is being studied by economists and universities worldwide.
The severity of inequality was decreasing due to the efficient implementation of welfare schemes, he said. He highlighted that the Karnataka model of development focuses on building a people-centred approach to economic, social, and cultural governance.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot highlighted some of the major initiatives for developing infrastructure and decongestion of traffic in Bengaluru, Mysuru and other tier-II and III cities in Karnataka by the Siddaramaiah-led government.
The Governor said the government proposes to construct a double-decker flyover consisting of metro rail and road of 40.50 km length to reduce traffic congestion in Bengaluru city. The combined metro rail-cum-road flyover project is being undertaken at a cost of ₹8,916 crore.
In his 70-minute speech, the Governor said the government has decided to obtain a loan of ₹27,000 crore from HUDCO to implement the Bangalore Peripheral Ring Road Part-1 project. The work is intended to be carried out by acquiring 2,565 acres, and 73 km of road would be constructed.
Vijayapura district will get enough investment to create over 10,000 jobs in the next few years, Industrial Infrastructure Development Minister M.B. Patil said in Ghonasagi on March 1.
