MLC election vote counting process begins in Karimnagar with tight security, expected to last over 24 hours.
The elaborate process of counting of votes polled in the MLC elections for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies got underway at Dr. Ambedkar indoor stadium, the designated counting centre, in Karimnagar on Monday (March 3, 2025) morning.
The counting process is likely to stretch beyond 24 hours since ballot papers were used in the MLC elections in adherence to the preferential voting system.
The sealed strong rooms were opened in the presence of the candidates, counting agents and the election observers at 8 a.m. this morning. Collector Pamela Satpathy, who is the Returning Officer, was present.
A total of 2,50,106 voters cast their ballots in the Graduates’ MLC polls and 24,895 teachers exercised their franchise in the Teachers’ MLC elections held on February 27, sealing the fate of 56 candidates in the Graduates’ constituency and 15 candidates in the Teachers’ segment, respectively.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place at the counting centre with 400 police personnel deployed in and around the stadium.
The Graduates’ MLC elections witnessed a tough electoral battle with the ruling Congress conducting an extensive election campaign to retain the seat and the BJP spearheading a whirlwind electioneering to wrest the seat in north Telangana.
Political observers feel that the Graduates’ MLC poll outcome is significant for both the national parties ahead of the upcoming local body elections in the State.
