Man kills wife, ends own life in village near Sullia

Police gave the name of the man as Ramachandra Gowda, 54, a resident of Kodimajalu House, Nelloor-Kemraje village in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka.
A 54-year-old man shot his 43-year-old wife and later ended his own life by consuming acid in Sullia police limits at night on January 17.
Police gave the name of the man as Ramachandra Gowda, 54, a resident of Kodimajalu House, Nelloor-Kemraje village in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka.
His son, S. R. Prashanth, told the police that Gowda was a habitual drinker. He came home in an inebriated condition at night and began abusing the grandparents and mother (Vinoda) of the complainant. Around 11.30 p.m., he took a rifle and shot Vinoda killing her on the spot. Later, Gowda consumed the acid, which is used in production of rubber sheets, and ended his life, according to the son.
Sullia police have registered a case and are investigating.
Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amith Kumar Singh and Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police N. Yatish visited the scene of crime on January 18 to take stock of the situation.
