BBMP’s new khata website receives over 2,000 applications in four days from property owners in Bengaluru

This effort of the BBMP to issue new khata will help bring khata-less properties under the net of property tax.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has received over 2,000 applications to secure new digital khata on its new website after it was launched on January 13. However, BBMP has not yet issued new khatas.
This separate website (https://bbmp.karnataka.gov.in/newkhata) was designed for the properties which do not have manual khata and cannot apply for e-khata on the regular website. BBMP officials say that in the new website, the civic body will be issuing new digital khata and not calling it as e-khata.
The change in terminology is to avoid confusion between e-khata for existing manual khata and new khata.
It should be noted that the citizens have to apply for regular e-khata on www.bbmpeaasthi.karnataka.gov.in. E-khata is mandatory since October 1, 2024, for registration of properties.
BBMP Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil told The Hindu that the website received more than 500 applications for new khata every day in the last four days. In total, more than 2,000 applications were received. BBMP has so far issued more than 1.25 lakh e-khatas on the regular site, and more than 12 lakh draft e-khatas have been downloaded.
“The BBMP has not commenced full-fledged promotion of this website. In the coming days the numbers will increase exponentially and we will start issuing new khatas. According to rough estimates, there are about 5 lakh such properties in the city,” Mr. Moudgil said.
