Lack of proper roads, incomplete drain, and inadequate water supply have raised the hackles of residents in Anna Nagar and other residential colonies near Pappakurichi in Ward 38 in Tiruchi.
There are around 300 families and 11,000 people residing in Anna Nagar, Kamaraj Nagar, N.S.B Avenue, Pappakurichi, Veedivarangam, North Kattur, and other residential areas in Ward 38.
Here, residents have complained that the poor condition of certain stretches of roads in the area that were dug up for the underground drainage (UGD) scheme have suffered neglect and have not been properly re-laid since the civic body began the project.
The movement of earthmovers through the area to erect sewage pipelines damages the roads. The heavy machines also damage the water pipes thus the area receives inadequate supply of water. The drains are clogged with garbage, they added.
“The issues have been long pending, yet the Corporation turns a blind eye to our requests,” said S.S. Rahamathulla, District President - Environment Wing, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
When contacted by The Hindu, a senior Corporation official said that certain streets in Ward 38 are yet to receive underground sewage connection. The work will be completed in a few months. The roads will be re-laid once the UGD work is completed, he added.
