APTDC Chairman Balaji reviews slow tourism development progress, suspends construction work, and emphasizes government's commitment to sector growth.
Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) Chairman Nukasani Balaji on Saturday said that the State government has no plans to privatise the tourism sector.
Mr. Balaji visited the Horsley Hills in B. Kothakota mandal of Madanapalle division in Annamayya district, and reviewed the tourism development initiatives atop the hill station.
The review brought to light concerns regarding the slow progress of development at Horsley Hills. Despite a budget allocation of ₹9.13 crore for the projects, Balaji voiced dissatisfaction with the fact that merely 5 percent of the work has been accomplished. He cautioned that such delays could result in substantial revenue losses for the Tourism Department.
The APTDC Chairman ordered the suspension of construction work at Yatri Niwas and suggested using the area for tourism-related activities instead. He revealed plans to hand over the Revenue Guest House to the Tourism Department to increase its effectiveness to serve the tourists.
Balaji said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has thoroughly prioritised the tourism sector. He mentioned that the government is offering special incentives and concessions to lure investors into the field.
In response to concerns regarding the Tirupati Alipiri unit, the APTDC Chairman expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of 1,000 darshan tickets without the Tourism Department’s consultation. He noted that this cancellation has led to a monthly revenue loss of ₹1 crore. He said that a formal petition would be submitted to the Chief Minister to address the issue.
He assured the Tourism Department staff that their requests for uniforms and footwear would be addressed promptly. He informed them that the State government was following a resolute approach to accelerating tourism development while ensuring transparency and efficiency within the sector.
