With drip bags and decoction bottles, Beachville Coffee Roasters is working on enhancing your favourite cuppa with convenient options
The role of a morning beverage is sacrosanct. Be it a steaming cup of chai or coffee - it has the potential to make or break the day. Beachville coffee roasters is now working on making that first cup and the subsequent follow-ups, great.
“After conducting many surveys, we divide our customers into three brackets - coffee nerds, convenience-seekers and coffee lovers. The coffee nerds will somehow find their way so our current plan is to help the coffee lovers and convenience-seekers,” shares Divya Jayashankar, founder, Beachville Coffee Roasters.
Beachville Coffee Roasters launched in 2019 and has been working on bringing speciality coffee to our filter kaapi loving city with a cafe and their own roastery. “My work with coffee began when I was trying to make myself a cup of filter coffee with Ethiopian coffee which was so acidic that it curdled the milk. I love coffee and I drink all kinds of it through the day; but my first cup has to be a filter coffee wherever I am. We all have these routines and in the long run just stop paying attention to them. I hope to help my customers reconnect with these routines by elevating their coffee experience,” she shares.
As a tribute to filter coffee drinkers like herself, and a big chunk of the city, Divya has brought in decoction bottles. “One bottle can make three very strong cups of coffee or four regular cups. Priced at ₹150, these are freshly made daily with no additives or stabilisers. It can stay good for two days if refrigerated. It is great if you want a cup of good filter coffee but are not able to prepare the decoction or are on the go and would want to have a good cup of coffee wherever you may be. We use a blend of beans for this one,” she explains.
This bid to help the convenience-seekers extends to another product. Drip bags have become fairly popular among coffee brands and is a great hit amidst the corporates. “This is the tea bag for coffee and it is an invention that we were all waiting for. Each bag brews one cup and all that’s needed is hot water from the pantry. Apart from the convenience of it, this can also help customers explore new roasts or beans. Say a person has 15 cups of coffee in a week, one or two can be experimental. We have tins with five bags and can package any coffee in this way,” Divya shares.
Although the comfort of familiarity is what the daily cup of coffee offers, the awareness around coffee today encourages us to give a citrus cold brew or an espresso with tonic water a shot. Brands like Beachville also bring in shock and awe coffee by picking microlots from new estates and experiment with roasts and blends.
“Ultimately it is all about giving our customers the best coffee drinking experience. For our coffee lovers, the occasional experiment can be very rewarding and they are ready to try too. Since they might not know coffee like the first bucket, our coffee nerds, we are working on a website revamp to make coffee more approachable. The current design has information about estate or the roasting techniques but that might not tell them what to expect from the bean. Now we are using terms like ‘Sweet as custard’ or ‘Drinkable’ to give a clearer picture. This rebranding extends to our packs as well,” she explains.
