Stakeholders advocate for collaborative efforts in implementing effective tobacco control policies to protect public health in India.
Tobacco regulatory stakeholders have called for greater collaborative efforts between States in implementing effective tobacco control policies and enforcing existing regulations.
The recent National Consultation on Tobacco Product Regulation, organised by the National Tobacco Regulators Forum (NTRF) at Jipmer, in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, brought together policymakers, health experts, and representatives of regulatory bodies.
The two-day consultation discussed key measures in strengthening tobacco product regulation in India, a press note said.
The consultation featured discussions on global and national efforts in tobacco product regulation, with a review of National Tobacco Testing Laboratories (NTTLs) and emerging industry tactics.
The deliberations also focused on legal and regulatory challenges in tobacco control, featuring insights from Supreme Court Advocate Ranjit Singh and other distinguished panellists.
The experts discussed the importance of monitoring priority chemicals in tobacco products, strengthening regulatory measures, and addressing gaps in policy enforcement to protect public health better.
One of the highlights of the consultation was the State-level panel discussion, where representatives from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka shared their best practices and challenges in tobacco control.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
