Vijayawada and Vizag metro rails: Centre approves appointment of SYSTRA MVA Consulting for preparing mobility plans. The New Delhi-based consultant has emerged as the successful bidder for preparing CMPs for both the projects. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned DPRs for construction of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail for a length of 46.23 km in three corridors at an estimated cost of ₹11,498 crore and the Vijayawada Metro Rail for a length of 38.40 km in two corridors at a cost of ₹11,009 crore.
The Union Government has approved the appointment of SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd for preparing / updating the Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMPs) for the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects following the submission of the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) in December 2024 for clearance.
According to an official release, the Government of Andhra Pradesh had sanctioned the DPRs for the construction of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail for a length of 46.23 km in three corridors at an estimated cost of ₹11,498 crore and the Vijayawada Metro Rail for a length of 38.40 km under Phase-I in two corridors at a cost of ₹11,009 crore, and submitted both of them to the Central government on December 5 for approval.
However, the Government of India had then asked for the revision of the CMPs since the earlier ones were prepared in 2019, and permitted the MD of the AP Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL) to call for tenders for selection of suitable consultants for updating the CMP.
Tenders were called and of the consultants that filed their bids, the New Delhi-based SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd. emerged as the successful bidder for both the CMPs. The other two bidders were RITES Limited and Assystem (formerly L&T EIL).
The State government submitted the same with its recommendations to the Union Government for approval of SYSTRA as the consultants. The Centre gave the nod for awarding the consultancy work to SYSTRA on March 17.
The State government directed the MD of APMRCL to take further action, including signing the agreement with SYSTRA, and complete the work in three months.
APMRCL MD N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy issued the Letter of Award to SYSTRA MVA Consulting on March 19.
