Puducherry Police enforce helmet rule with special drive, issuing chellan and raising awareness for road safety.
The Police on Saturday conducted a special drive to enforce helmet rule in accident prone areas in Puducherry. As per the directions from the top brass, police formed special teams to conduct two-wheeler checks on Puducherry-Cuddalore, Puducherry-Villupuram, Puducherry-Chennai (ECR), Puducherry-Tindivanam and Puducherry-Thirukkanur routes.
Two-wheeler riders not wearing the head-gear were issued chellan. Some riders who were caught without helmet were let off with a warning and pasting a sticker message on the importance of wearing the head-gear. In the last two days, police have intensified vehicle checks to ensure two-wheeler riders are adhering to the rule.
“The compliance level is improving every day. During the special drive on Saturday, two-wheeler riders have been caught for not wearing helmet and they have been issued chellan. We will continue with the drive and awareness programme to ensure more people comply with the helmet rule,” police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Praveen Kumar Tripathi, on Saturday morning held an awareness programme for the employees of Larsan Tin Printers. Mr. Tripathi said after the awareness programme the owner of the company agreed to distribute helmet to the employees using two-wheeler. Such awareness programmes will be held more often, he said.
Another event was held in the evening at Providence Mall to felicitate winners of a road safety awareness competition. The Puducherry Traffic Police will be organising a Wear Helmet Walkathon on Sunday. The marathon would commence from the Beach Road, police said.
