The Madras Canine Club’s 143rd, 144th, and 145th All Breeds Championship Dog Shows began in Chennai on Saturday (January 17, 2025). The two-day event also includes obedience trials and two speciality shows.
Visitors surrounded the rings watching dogs trotting around with their masters, while other dogs were being groomed in their assigned kennels. From Shih Tzus, Dalmations, Pugs, Dachshunds, and Rottweilers, to Rajapalayams and Rampur Hounds, the show had over 350 participants from across India.
The Great Dane Club of India and the Doberman Pinscher Confederation of India put on speciality shows on Saturday.
Secretary of The Madras Canine Club S. Siddhartha said, the obedience trials also included around 10 dogs from the Chennai police.
The dogs are to be judged by a panel of judges from across the globe – Barbara Muller from Switzerland, Donne Lucas from Uruguay, Robert L.T. Dawson from Thailand, and Suncica Lazic from Belgrade.
“This is my second visit to the dog show. My family really loves dogs. Apart from being well organised, this is a great opportunity to see different kinds of breeds that we are not familiar with or see as often,” said Premkumar Navamani, a visitor.
