The government of Karnataka will rename the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) after K. H. Patil.
Delivering a video message on the birth centenary celebrations of the former minister and former KPCC president on March 16, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said it was one of the several measures to recall his contribution to the district. He expressed regret for not participating in the event due to health reasons.
“K.H. Patil was a proud and beloved leader of the State. He made unforgettable contributions to the cooperative sector. He was known as an honest politician. He served as a minister and KPCC president. He was expert organiser and administrator. He was dedicated to strengthening the cooperative sector. His efforts made the Gadag Co-operative Cotton Sale Society a pro-farmer organisation in the true sense. He is credited with establishing many educational institutions to provide quality education to the rural poor
“As a member of Devraj Urs cabinet, K. H. Patil introduced strict laws to protect the forest cover in Karnataka. This was after his visit to forest areas in H.D. Kote and Mysuru. The credit of reducing the discretionary power of the forest minister and empowering the State Assembly to take decisions about protecting forests goes to him. Karnataka was the first State to do that. If the State’s forest areas are intact, the credit goes to K. H. Patil,” the CM said.
He recalled that K.H. Patil was the chairperson of the committee that officially declared the State as ‘Karnataka’.
“K. H. Patil was an embodiment of truthfulness, simplicity, self-confidence, courage of conviction and hard work. His ideals will inspire our youth. His son H. K. Patil embodies the ideals that were practised by K. H. Patil. He is working towards the welfare of the State and empowerment of society,” Mr Siddaramaiah said.

Railways promise to complete project by April-end. Divisional Railway Manager of Southern Railway’s Palakkad division Arun Kumar Chaturvedi told The Hindu that steep slopes at the project site require micro piling to be done for stability. Hence, the boxes could not be pushed before February. Concrete boxes are kept ready and would be pushed from April first week after placing girders beneath the rails with the work expected to be over by April-end.
