
IPL 2025 opening ceremony: Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Arijit Singh to perform at star-studded event

The opening ceremony of the 18th Indian Premiere League will kick off with performances from Bollywood celebrities, including Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Arijit Singh
The 18th edition of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) will begin with former champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Before the first game, the tournament is set to kick off with a dazzling opening ceremony.
Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor, on the back of the humungous success of her horror comedy Stree 2, will perform during the event. The actor will be joined by Varun Dhawan in what is expected to be a dazzling show. Varun Dhawan, who played a cameo in Stree 2,was last seen in Baby John. A remake of the Tamil hit Theri, starring Vijay, Baby John failed to fire at the box office.
The glitzy ceremony will also witness the performance of popular playback singer Arijit Singh, who will render his evergreen tracks. Last month, Arijit Singh spent time with friend and popular singer Ed Sheeran during the latter’s visit to India for his Mathematics Tour. Playback singer Sonu Nigam, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and veteran music composer A R Rahman had performed in the opening ceremony of the previous edition of the IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions of the tournament. The Shreyas Iyer-led side had defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to win their third title.

Following protests by residents of Mittaganahalli and Kannur villages over dumping the city’s waste in the Mittaganahalli quarry pit, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon issue tenders and work orders and begin work on rural development projects worth ₹500 crore in these areas, Chief Civic Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said on Monday.
