Tejashwi Yadav criticices Bihar CM for failing to maintain law and order, highlighting increasing attacks on policemen.
Following recent incidents of attacks on policemen in different parts of Bihar, the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday (March 17, 2025) slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Government saying that “no one is safe in Bihar today”. Earlier, the Opposition mahagatbandhan (grand alliance) legislators protested inside the assembly raising the issue of deteriorating law and order situation even as NDA MLAs reacted that the “law will reach to everyone responsible”.
“Bihar Government has failed to contain law and order situation in the State today. Nobody feels safe in the State. As many as 60,000 murders and 25,000 rapes have taken place as well as highest number of killings of policemen and assaults on them have taken place in the State during the regime of Nitish Kumar. He must answer for this. Everyone feels insecure today in Bihar,” Mr. Yadav alleged while addressing the media in the assembly premises.
He further blamed that “rather than addressing the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, the Government continues to hold Lalu Yadav’s previous 15-year tenure responsible for everything. The administration today seems more focused on shielding criminals than ensuring effective governance, exposing its failure to maintain control”.
Earlier, the Opposition mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) legislators raised the issue of the recent attacks on policemen in Bihar in which two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) were killed by mobs and several were injured in different parts of the State and protested inside the well of the House. Shouting slogans against the Nitish Kumar Government, the Opposition members also flagged posters which were later taken out by Marshals on the order of Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav to continue with the question hour of the House.
“There were 22 deaths during Holi, the festival of colour, in Bihar. What more needs to happen to wake up the government from its deep slumber? It was khoon-ki-holi (Holi played with blood) this time and the Government used to hide behind the pre-2005 regime (of RJD). Two policemen were killed and several others were injured. The BJP leaders are fanning tension in the State,” charged Mukesh Roshan, RJD MLA from Mahua assembly seat in Vaishali district.
Congress MLA from Bhagalpur Ajeet Sharma added, “The way policemen are falling prey to outlaws, it reflects their (outlaws) growing audacity and failure of governance in the State.” The NDA legislators though retorted to the Opposition’s charge saying, “Law will eventually reach to everyone responsible for such incidents.”
“Gone are the days when criminal incidents got patronage from 1, Anne Marg (the official residence of chief minister). The anti-social elements will face the music as there is rule of law in the State”, said several NDA MLAs and leaders.
