Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s team has put an end to rumours that the actor’s been diagnosed with cancer, stating that he is on break from films due to Ramadan fasting
On Sunday, social media was abuzz with speculation that Malayalam superstar Mammootty had been diagnosed with cancer, and that the superstar is hitting a pause on film commitments to undergo treatment. Now, on Monday (March 17), the superstar’s team has put an end to all such rumours, stating that the actor is on break from films due to Ramadan.
In a statement to Mid-Day, the 73-year-old star’s team said, “It is fake news. He is on vacation because he is fasting for Ramzan. He is on a break from his shoot schedule as well because of that. In fact, after the break he will go back to shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s film with Mohanlal.”
Mammootty is starring alongside his contemporary, superstar Mohanlal, in Mahesh Narayanan’s much-awaited film, tentatively called MMMN. Also starring Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchako Boban and Darshana Rajendran, the film went on floors in November in Sri Lanka, and is set to be shot in Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, London, Thailand, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Kochi.
The project reunites Mammootty with Mohanlal after 16 years. Mohanlal played a small role in Mammootty’s Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (2013). Much before that movie, in 2011, Mammootty essayed a cameo in Mohalal’s Christian Brothers. The two had meaty roles in the mutlistarrer Twenty Twenty in 2008.
Nayanthara and Mammootty had previously worked in Siddique’s Bhaskar the Rascal (2018) and Puthiya Niyamam (2016).
Manush Nandan, who worked in Dunki (2023) starring Shah Rukh Khan, is the movie’s cinematographer. The movie is bankrolled by Antony Perambavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas and Anto Joseph’s AJFC.
Last seen in Gautham Menon’s Dominic And the Ladies’ Purse, Mammootty has Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis, untitled film with Falimy director Nithish Sahadev, and Kalamkaval, co-starring Vinayakan, among others, in the pipeline.

Railways promise to complete project by April-end. Divisional Railway Manager of Southern Railway’s Palakkad division Arun Kumar Chaturvedi told The Hindu that steep slopes at the project site require micro piling to be done for stability. Hence, the boxes could not be pushed before February. Concrete boxes are kept ready and would be pushed from April first week after placing girders beneath the rails with the work expected to be over by April-end.
