Expecting heavy traffic on the weekend, with many returning to Chennai after the Pongal holidays, the Tambaram City police have put several regulations in place to minimise bottlenecks.

Heavy vehicles coming to Chennai will be diverted at Chengalpattu and the Kanchipuram Paranur junction towards the Service Road, and they may proceed to their destination via Sriperumbudur. Further, vehicles approaching Chennai will be redirected at SP Koil X Oragadam toward Oragadam and Sriperumbudur.
Heavy vehicles through Thiruporur will be diverted at Dr. Ambedkar statue to proceed via Chengalpattu.
“Heavy vehicles will be prohibited on GST Road, Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, OMR, and ECR from 2:00 PM on Jan 18 until 2:00 PM on Jan 20 [sic],” said an advisory from Tambaram Police Commissionerate.
The police said Southern Railways will run special local trains at intervals of 15 minutes. Passengers are encouraged to board at Chengalpattu, Maraimalai Nagar, Potheri, and Kattankulathur stations for faster travel to their destinations.
One-way traffic may be implemented on Pallavaram New Bridge towards Chennai (incoming side) from 2 p.m. on January 18 to 12 p.m. January 20 as and when necessary.
Omni Buses will be diverted via the Outer Ring Road (ORR) towards Poonamalle and Maduravoyal to facilitate faster travel on GST road. Additionally, other vehicles also may be diverted on ORR at Mudichur road junction towards Tambaram as required, to ensure optimal traffic flow at Zero point.
