Hyderabad's modern infrastructure enables successful organ transportation for donation, utilizing Metro line and Outer Ring Road green corridors.
Hyderabad’s modern infrastructure played a key role in transporting harvested body organs when the both the Metro line and the Outer Ring Road (ORR) were pressed into service. The family of 34-year-old Malga Naveen consented to donate his organs after he was declared brain-dead on Friday (January 17, 2025). His organs were transplanted to patients in need, giving them a new lease of life.
Naveen, who had met with an accident involving a tractor while riding his two-wheeler, was rushed to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment. Despite the medical team’s efforts, his condition worsened, and doctors declared him brain-dead on Friday, prompting the decision to harvest his organs at Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar.
The hospital’s medical team successfully harvested five of Naveen’s organs, including kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, and corneas. Out of these, three organs were utilised for in-house patients, while the heart and lungs were transported to other hospitals on Friday night through planned green corridors.
The first green corridor facilitated the transportation of Naveen’s heart to Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdi-ka-Pul using the Hyderabad Metro line.
Simultaneously, another team transported Naveen’s lungs to Yashoda Hospitals in Hitec City via a green corridor created along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The 39-minute journey began at 9.45 p.m., with the team reaching their destination by 10.24 p.m., as confirmed by the Jeevandan Cadaver Transplantation Programme.
Both transportations were coordinated by the Jeevandan programme, which plays a vital role in facilitating organ transplants in Telangana.
