Four girders collapse on Alappuzha bypass road in Kerala, no casualties reported, cause of collapse unknown.
Four girders of an under-construction bridge parallel to the elevated portion of the Alappuzha bypass road in Kerala collapsed on Monday (March 3) morning.
The incident occurred near Vijay Park close to Alappuzha beach around 11 a.m. The elevated highway is being built as part of the widening of national highway 66.
Officials said that no casualties had been reported so far. “We have decided to lift the girders using a crane to ensure no one is trapped underneath,” said a police official.
Sources said the girders were placed a week ago. The cause of the collapse is not immediately known.
