At The Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling Fair 2025 on Saturday (April 5, 2025), T. Purusothaman, Secretary of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2025 and professor at the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, addressed students and parents on the topic, ‘Discovering Engineering: Choosing the Right Path.’
During the session, Dr. Purusothaman provided an overview of the TNEA counselling procedure for admissions to Anna University and its affiliated colleges. He explained the step-by-step process, particularly for the benefit of students who have recently completed their Class 12 board exams.
“After the board exam results are announced, students need to submit a single application that includes all the necessary certificates. It is important to obtain any missing documents during this period. From there, the process moves step by step, leading up to the counselling rounds, which are based on the students’ cut-off scores,” he explained.
He also spoke about the fully funded scholarships available for students from government schools, as well as those under the sports and disability quotas. “Last year, we received only 300 applications from students with disabilities, despite 7,500 seats being reserved,” he said.
Addressing the transparency in the counselling procedure, he also stressed the importance of preparation. “In the first three days of the counselling rounds, students need to fill in their choices. It is of utmost important to research and shortlist your preferred colleges and courses beforehand. Once selected, you must lock in your choices and confirm them before the deadline, or the seat will be allotted to someone else,” he said.
Dr. Purusothaman said that two government-run facilitation centres will be available in each district to support students ahead of the TNEA counselling process. He encouraged students and parents to stay updated by visiting www.tneaonline.org and to use the toll-free helpline 1800 425 0110 for any queries.
