April a good sign for Telangana’s social justice measures: Ponnam
Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, on Sunday, said that the month of April bodes well for Telangana, coinciding with the birth anniversaries of social reformers and social justice leaders Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, B.R. Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram, and the government’s ambitious Bills getting its approval.
Participating in the closing ceremony of the four-day event at Osmania University to commemorate the birth anniversaries, he said that the Telangana Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservation) Bill and the bill for raising Backward Classes (BC) reservations to 42% were approved by the Governor and sent to the President for consideration.
“The Supreme Court also gave its verdict on the same day on how the President and the Governor should act. We consider it a good sign regarding these two Bills,” he said.
Mr. Prabhakar informed that a meeting was held on SC sub categorisation and the related GO would be released on Monday.
Earlier, at the B.R. Ambedkar Open University, he participated in a social empowerment festival, celebrating the lives of the social justice leaders, and said, “Constitution is an invisible shield – the protection it offers, the loss of rights if its badly amended – that everyone should learn about.”
