26-year-old software engineer attempts self-immolation in front of Raj Bhavan over alleged harassment from wife, detained by police.
Allegedly upset over harassment from his wife, a 26-year-old software engineer tried to set himself on fire in front of Raj Bhavan on Sunday evening.
The accused, identified as Zubair, a resident of Hebbal, was detained by security personnel and handed over to the jurisdictional Vidhana Soudha police for further action.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 4.30 p.m. on Sunday. Zubair poured petrol upon himself at the entrance of the Raj Bhavan in a bid to immolate himself. The security personnel, who were present at the spot, immediately threw water over Zubair and later detained him.
Zubair told the police that he was dejected as his wife had filed a dowry harassment case against him in Chickaballapur and also assaulted him. He further claimed police refused to file an assault case against his wife.
The Vidhana Soudha Police counselled him and summoned his parents for an inquiry. He was booked for public nuisance.
