Unauthorised parking causes hardship to motorists on Shanmugarayon Street
The Hindu
Shanmugarayon Street in Old Washermanpet faces traffic issues due to unauthorized parking, requesting police intervention for regulation.
The Shanmugarayon Street at Old Washermanpet links residential localities of Korukkupet and nearby areas to Tiruvottiyur High Road. The street is narrow and has shops and houses on both sides. Of late, motorists are inconvenienced by the unauthorised parking of mini-lorries and Chennai Metrowater tankers on the street. At morning peak hours, private omni-vans and school buses have to navigate a bumper-to-bumper traffic to reach Tiruvottiyur High Road. We request the traffic police to depute a constable to the street, at least at peak hours, to regulate the traffic.

A senior officer of the Greater Chennai Traffic Police says a police booth will be installed at the junction of Tiruvottiyur High Road-Shanmugarayon Street. Once the booth starts functioning, traffic policemen would be posted on the street.
The Chengalpattu district administration had installed metal barricades at the historical places of Mamallapuram during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2019. They have been removed from several places, but the barricades in front of the Butter Ball monument has been rusting, and they pose a threat to visitors. Requests to the municipal officials to remove these barricades have been in vain.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi said the Pakistan-instigated terrorists attacked innocent tourists visiting Pahalgam. For many years, the nation had been the victim of terrorist attacks. In recent years, the terror activities had come down due to effective measures of the Central Government. “The local people of J&K were happy with the recent developments. However, terrorists have attacked again. We will give them a fitting reply,” he said.
