BJP Tamil Nadu president criticizes DMK, discusses alliance with AIADMK, and condemns controversial remarks ahead of elections.
BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran on Sunday called the resolution passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to reclaim Katchatheevu as merely a political stunt to deceive the people of the State.
Addressing the media in Tirunelveli, he said that the common goal of the NDA alliance is to uproot the DMK from power in the upcoming election next year.
While acknowledging that there may be some ideological differences between the BJP and the AIADMK, he stated that the discussions are under way to set up a common minimum programme agenda that incorporates the priorities of both parties.
He pointed out the growing public dissatisfaction with the DMK government, citing rising property tax, increased electricity tariffs and widespread drug menace, especially among the younger generations.
“Ganja is available across the State without any control, and this is directly linked to rise in crime,” he charged.
Mr. Nagenthran criticised the law and order situation in the State saying, the Chief Minister should be in control of the police department. But today, it is clear the police are not performing their duties as they should, he said.
Contrasting this with the Centre’s efforts, he said that the BJP led government has been implementing various welfare measures across the country. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointed out during his recent visit to Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu had received three times more funds in the last 10 years under the BJP rule, compared to the Congress government’s 10 years term prior to 2014, he pointed out.
