South Central Railway earns record originating revenue of ₹20,452 crore in FY 24-25

South Central Railway (SCR), which has been consistently performing well during the last three financial years, has registered the best figures in terms of revenue by achieving the highest-ever gross originating revenue of ₹20,452 crore, backed by excellent performance in both freight and passenger segments.
This is also ₹117 crore more than the previous best of ₹20,335 crore achieved in 2023-24, followed by ₹18,973 crore registered during 2022-23, said an official release on Monday.
During the financial year of 2024-25, the strategy of continuous monitoring of passenger demand across various directions so as to introduce new trains, special trains wherever necessary and also augment the existing trains having demand by attaching extra coaches etc., has led to a substantial growth in earnings and passengers volume.
Around 3,500 special trains were run, more than 10,000 extra coaches were attached to different express trains to meet higher passenger demand. These initiatives have led to collection of ₹5,710 crore of originating passenger revenue by carrying 263.2 million passengers when compared to 262.5 million during 2023-24. A best-ever revenue of ₹513.6 crore has been achieved including parcel revenue, ticket checking revenue etc. The earnings on parking fees, catering and advertisements has been another high of ₹402.7 crore.
Railway officials’ efforts on diversifying the traffic streams, improving existing commodity baskets through customer-centric initiatives, development of freight infrastructure, ensuring wagons availability, monitoring the path and movement of freight trains, improving goods sheds etc., has helped carry 144.10 million tonnes and highest ever freight revenue of ₹13,825 crore.
