Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's Zero Poverty–P4 policy inspires individuals and institutions in Andhra Pradesh, fostering collective responsibility.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s ambitious Zero Poverty–P4 policy has begun inspiring individuals and institutions across Andhra Pradesh within days of its launch. responding to the Chief Minister’s call for collective responsibility in eliminating poverty chairman of Prasad Seeds Karumanchi Prasad has come forward to fund a crucial lift irrigation project with a personal donation of ₹10 crore.
Chief Minister, elaborating on the public reaction to the P4 policy, during a press conference at Secretariat on Monday (April 07), said that there are many good people in society and they are willing to come and serve the poor.
The proposed Kommamuru Lift Irrigation Project, to be developed near Kakumanu mandal in Guntur district, aims to solve longstanding irrigation challenges faced by farmers in the region. Despite the presence of the Kommamuru Canal, tail-end lands have not been receiving adequate water for years. Once implemented, the project is expected to stabilize irrigation across 5,315 acres, benefiting villages such as Kakumanu, BK Palem, Appapuram, Garikapadu, and Kondapaturu, the Chief Minister said.
Moved by the plight of farmers in his native village, Mr. Karumanchi Prasad assured the Chief Minister that his company would partner with the government to build the lift irrigation facility entirely with its own funds. “This initiative is not just a donation, it is a commitment to the well-being of our farmers,” said Mr. Prasad on Saturday at a public meeting at the time of announcing funds, while expressing hope that the project will resolve both irrigation and drinking water needs in the region.
The project includes construction of a 100-foot-wide canal along the final 10-kilometre stretch of the Kommamuru Canal, ensuring continuous flow of 100 cusecs of water to tail-end ayacut lands.
Mr. Karumanchi Prasad, a native of Kakumanu village and an established businessman in the seed industry for over four decades, has a history of contributing to local development. Notably, he provided financial support to complete the Pedanandipadu Lift Irrigation Scheme in 1995.
His latest philanthropic act is being seen as a beacon of inspiration for others. “Mr. Prasad’s gesture exemplifies the impact one individual can make in transforming rural lives,” said Chief Minister Naidu.
