NEP-2020 creating career opportunities for India's youth, urges consensus among stakeholders for successful implementation and positive impact.
The National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) has yielded positive results over the past five years by creating multiple career opportunities for the growing young population in India, said T.V. Kattimani, a member of the NEP-2020 Drafting and Implementation Committees and Vice Chancellor of Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh-Vizianagaram, on Tuesday.
Mr Kattimani highlighted that over 65% of India’s population is under the age of 35. Ensuring a quality life and livelihood opportunities for them are significant challenges for the government. To address these challenges, the government appointed the NEP Drafting Committee, headed by K. Kasturrangan, eight years ago. The initial results of NEP-2020 have been good, as the youth acquire multiple skills they become valuable human resources asset for the country.
He emphasised the importance of States implementing the NEP-2020 in letter and spirit. He said: “NEP-2020 allows students to study multi-disciplinary courses alongside the selected conventional course. It breaks the traditional confinement to arts, science and medicine streams. It offers wider opportunities, enhances skills, enables students to take up multiple jobs and explore other career opportunities. Naturally, unemployment will come down in the near future. “
Dr. Kattimani, along with three other Drafting Committee members, will soon submit a report to the Union government, incorporating feedback from various states and academia for further action on NEP-2020.
