T. Thyagarajan from VIT Chennai emphasizes holistic student development and diverse career paths at education fair.
T. Thyagarajan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai, urged students to select their college campus after looking at the holistic development of students offered by the institution. He was speaking at the 22nd edition of The HinduEducationPlus Career Counselling Fair 2025 held on Saturday.
At a session on ‘Educational Tracks for Alternate Career Paths in Higher Education’, he discussed the various professions and courses that a student could take up in their higher education, including fashion technology, data science, law, psychology, and masters in blue humanities.
Stating that the focus must not only be on academics but also on developing the future citizens of India, Mr. Thyagarajan said, ”This mindset has to be developed by the teachers, the campus, and others involved in academia.”
Replying to a question on the next big area to study, he said, “Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence (AI) but what about other courses? AI, blockchain technology, and machine learning are tools that can be used in any field. You can’t have narrowed expertise and must have exposure to all domains. You need to be aware of various advancements in and around your domain and be aware of associated expertise. Technology continues to explode. Hence, learning and technology is a long process, which is why strong fundamentals are a must.”
