Two cadre of Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Andhra Pradesh after travelling more than 450 km on their bicycles for about six days reached the venue of 24th congress in Madurai on Saturday.
Challa Venkataiah, 78, former Chittoor district secretary, and K. Kuppusamy, 58, a maintenance worker and party cadre, who started their journey on their bicycles from Chittoor on March 29, reached Madurai after crossing about 450 km.
Mr. Kuppusamy said the duo had an experience of travelling to Coimbatore on their bicycles for attending the 19th congress in 2008.
He added that though they could travel by train or by bus they made a decision to use their bicycles to show people how they were attached to their ideology.
“We did not just travel to show that we can drive 500 km, but it was to explain and show people the qualities and principles of Marxism ideology we believe in,” he added.
He recalled that they travelled through Chittoor, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Thirukovilur, Veppur, Perambalur, Thovarankurichi, Kottampatti and Madurai.
