Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena inspected the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation’s godown at Aralvaimozhi near here on Tuesday to check the quality of the grains, sugar, and other essential commodities stored there for public distribution.
Ms. Alagumeena said rice, sugar, cooking oil, dal, and other essential commodities being sold through the ration shops were stored in the godowns before being taken to the ration shops. Since the essential commodities required for one month would be stored here, the quantity and the quality of these products were to be guaranteed while being sold to the consumers.
“Hence, the inspection was conducted today and the quality of rice, wheat, dal and so on were checked besides ascertaining the stocks by verifying them with the records being maintained in the godown. The infrastructure created in the TNCSC godown was reviewed,” Ms. Alagumeena said.
Later, the Collector visited the ration shop at Nesamony Nagar, where she checked the quality of the commodities being sold in the ration shop and interacted with the cardholders and the ration shop workers to understand their grievances, if any.
“You (cardholders and the ration shop workers) may convey your grievances either to me or the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies. We’ll redress the genuine grievances. If any violation is found, the ration shop workers will be taken to task,” Ms. Alagumeena warned.
Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies Sivakami was present.
