Faizal Khan, 'Khan Sir' of Khan Global Studies, not arrested; Bihar Police takes action against spreading false news.
Educator and YouTuber Faizal Khan, popularly known as ‘Khan Sir’ of the well-known Khan Global Studies coaching institute in Patna, has not been arrested, and the coaching institute’s X handle had a “misleading, baseless and provocative” post, the Bihar Police said on Saturday (December 7, 2024). The police have lodged a case against the institute’s X account for allegedly spreading false news.
“This handle has made a misleading post. ‘Khan Sir’ was not arrested or detained by the police. Legal action will be taken against the social media handle of Khan Global Studies coaching institute for propagating fake, baseless and provocative information regarding the ‘arrest’ of Khan Sir,” Anu Kumari, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of the Patna Secretariat Police Station-1 said.
“People associated with the social media handle demanded the release of ‘Khan Sir’ through various posts, when he had not been arrested,” she added.
Patna police also said that Mr. Khan had visited the Gardanibagh Police Station here on Friday night after speaking with protesting aspirants, who staged a dharna in the locality. “He was asked to leave the police station, and upon his request, was dropped near his car in a police vehicle,” Ms. Kumari said.
Protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants escalated on Friday (December 6, 2024) when the police used mild lathi (baton) charge to disperse them near the BPSC’s office in Patna. The protestors were demanding the withdrawal of alleged changes in the rules for the 70th BPSC preliminary examination, scheduled to be held on December 13, 2024 for Group A and B posts. Around five lakh aspirants are expected to appear for the examination to be conducted across 925 centres.
Aspirants said that the BPSC’s preliminary examination should be conducted in the ‘one shift, one paper’ format, and not by using the process of ‘normalisation of marks’. The normalisation process equalises scores using a statistical formula from examinations held in multiple shifts.
BPSC officials, however, denied there had been any changes in the examination process. Later, the protestors staged a dharna in Patna’s Gardanibagh locality, the designated area for holding protests in the State capital.
