P.V. Anvar, Nilambur MLA, set to announce major decision after joining Trinamool Congress, hinting at resignation.
Amid speculations about his political future, P.V. Anvar, Nilambur’s Independent MLA who broke away from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and joined the Trinamool Congress, is poised to make a big announcement at Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
In a Facebook post on Sunday evening, Mr. Anvar said that he would make an important announcement at a press meet to be held at The Terrace hotel, Thiruvananthapuram, at 9.30 a.m. on Monday.
Sources close to Mr. Anvar indicated that he might quit his Assembly membership in the wake of joining the Trinamool Congress. He was elected for the second term from Nilambur in 2021 as the LDF’s Independent candidate.
As per the anti-defection laws, by joining the Trinamool Congress, Mr. Anvar is deemed to have defected and will be disqualified from his Assembly membership.
In an FB post on Saturday, Mr. Anvar said he had taken charge as Kerala coordinator of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). Describing the Trinamool Congress’s motto as ‘mother, motherland, and people’, he said that the party led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would exemplify the real objective of politics in the country.
“With 40 members together in both houses of Parliament, the Trinamool Congress can play a significant role in the country’s legislative process,” he said.
Mr. Anvar was to reach Karipur from Kolkata on Sunday afternoon, but he cancelled that journey in order to meet Ms. Banerjee.
