Former MP Manda Jagannadham passes away at 73, known for his role in Telangana movement, survived by family.
Former member of Parliament Manda Jagannadham passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
The four-time MP from Nagarkurnool was 73 years old and is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. He won for the first time in 1996 as a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and later in 1999 and 2004 from the same party. He contested as the Congress candidate and won in the 2009 elections and was one of the prominent voices for separate Telangana in the Parliament. He joined the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (now BRS) in 2013 and unsuccessfully contested on its ticket in 2014.
Mr. Jaganndham was denied a ticket in the 2019 elections by the TRS but appointed as the State government’s Special Representative in New Delhi in 2022. However, he left the BRS in 2023 and joined the Congress seeking the ticket. After the ticket was denied, he joined the BSP.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy condoled the death and recalled his role in the Telangana movement. Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, BRS leaders K. T. Rama Rao, Harish Rao and TPCC president Mahesh Goud were among those who offered condolences.
