Tiruchi is a transit point for passengers travelling between their native place and cities such as Chennai, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore as well as southern districts. The temporary bus stops have been operational since Saturday.
These passengers enroute their homes in rural areas gathered in droves at the Central Bus Stand and three temporary bus stands set up at Illupur Road, Mannarpuram roundabout, and in front of Sona Mina cinema.
The police, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, and the Tiruchi City Corporation had employed personnel for crowd management. According to sources, 65 police personnel had been deployed in two shifts to regulate the traffic. The police personnel had been posted to monitor the CCTV cameras.

A Cabinet sub-committee has been announced to look into the future of the Bangalore-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project being executed by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE). The sub-committee, that is yet to be formed, will look into allegations of excess land being acquired, sale of land and other issues, and would explore whether the road project should be continued or not. The report is expected in two to three months.
