Chief Minister Revanth Reddy suggests boosting tourism in Hyderabad and Telangana through various initiatives and policies.
Ideas to boost tourism in Hyderabad and Telangana were suggested by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at a meeting on the State’s tourism policy on Friday (December 6, 2024). The tourism policy would be introduced in the Assembly to hold a comprehensive discussion.
The Chief Minister said that shopping malls have to be established in Hyderabad on the lines of Dubai and Singapore. Osmania General Hospital - to which construction of a new building in Goshamahal was sanctioned - would be vacated to turn it into a tourist attraction. He said that measures have to be taken to increase the number of tourists to Charminar.
Further, he said that there is a need to study establishment of a mega convention center in the proposed Future City. The convention centre should be accessible to the airport in 20 minutes of travel. Orders were issued to identify and develop suitable places for destination weddings.
As Hyderabad’s weather condition is pleasant throughout the year, the tourism sector should be developed accordingly. Automobile industry should also be promoted in Hyderabad like in Tamil Nadu, he suggested to officials.
The Chief Minister said that temple tourism has increased after the launch of free bus travel for women. Officials were directed to promote tourism in the Tiger Reserve Forest areas by connecting them to the temples. The need to create an environment in Telangana for Tigers to move in the State from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra was discussed.
The Chief Minister enquired about the Tourism department’s lands on lease. Action would be taken against those who do not vacate even after the lease expires. He said that tourist places should be given on lease to companies with good reputation.
Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Telangana Tourism Development Corporation chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, managing director Prakash Reddy and other officials were present at the meeting.
