The Neelangarai police have booked Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman and party functionaries for allegedly assembling at his house unlawfully, with wooden logs, when members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and May 17 Movement attempted to lay siege to his residence earlier this week.
On Wednesday (January 22, 2024), the cadres of TPDK, May 17 Movement, Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, and others reportedly laid siege to Seeman’s house, condemning the ‘derogatory’ remarks he had made against Periyar. The police registered a case against the protesters for staging the demonstration without permission.
Based on a complaint from a member of the TPDK, the police also booked Mr. Seeman and about 150 party workers, including women, for assembling unlawfully at his house with dangerous weapons with an intention to retaliate. The case was booked on charges including unlawful assembly, causing disturbance to public tranquillity, and threatening others.
