DMK seeks CBI probe into Pondicherry University's mismanagement, criticizes Centre's interference in education sector.
The principal Opposition, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the functioning of Pondicherry University.
Speaking at a protest organised by the DMK in front of PU on Thursday, Opposition leader and party convenor R. Siva said there had been several complaints about the functioning of the University in the recent times.
“Many wrong doings within the University had been reported recently. Wrong question papers for language subjects were given to the students that resulted in cancellation of exams. Semester exams were not conducted on time and funds not used appropriately. A CBI probe alone will bring out the truth,” he said.
The University was functioning without a Vice-Chancellor for more than a year. Several teaching and non-teaching posts have been lying vacant for many months now. The academic atmosphere has vitiated due to poor management of the University affairs, Mr. Siva said.
He also criticised the Centre for trying to infringe upon the rights of State governments. The New Education Policy and draft UGC regulations were only efforts by the Centre to control the education sector, he said. DMK legislators R. Senthil Kumar, Anibal Kennedy and L. Sampath participated in the protest
