A significant ruling by the Delhi High Court – former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar has been convicted in a dual murder case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
On February 12, 2025, the Delhi High Court found Kumar guilty of leading a violent mob that killed S. Jaswant Singh and his son S. Tarundeep Singh in Raj Nagar, Delhi, during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots following then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination.
The prosecution proved his role beyond a reasonable doubt. He now faces either life imprisonment or the death penalty. Arguments on sentencing will be heard on February 18.
But who is Sajjan Kumar, and how did he become one of the most controversial figures linked to the 1984 riots? What does this mean for the decades-long legal battle?
