KTR says future generations will not forgive if current delimitation process is not opposed

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said that future generations will not forgive if the present generation remains silent on the “injustice to be meted out to Southern States in the delimitation exercise”.

Signalling his party’s readiness to fight for the rights of Southern States, he criticised the BJP-led Central government for “exacerbating regional disparities” in several aspects. He was speaking at the Delimitation Conference organised in Chennai on Saturday.

KTR argued that it was not merely adjusting parliamentary representation and cautioned that it could lead to the centralisation of funds and fiscal control, jeopardising the progress of Southern States. “India is a federal union of diverse identities and cultures,” he said.

The BRS leader presented alternative approaches suggesting that instead of increasing parliamentary seats based solely on population, the Centre should maintain the current number of Lok Sabha seats while increasing MLA seats in Assemblies to improve governance efficiency.

He also proposed that delimitation should factor in a State’s economic progress, administrative efficiency, and developmental achievements rather than just population metrics. “If the Centre’s goal is better governance and representation, it must explore alternatives that don’t sow discord between states,” he urged.

“Southern States do not deserve punishment but encouragement for their contributions to India’s growth. The current delimitation policy will be detrimental to India’s aspiration of becoming a superpower,” he argued.
