India government promotes energy-efficient ACs for record-breaking power demand, urging manufacturers to accelerate adoption of BEE 5-star-rated models.
As India braces for record-breaking power demand this summer, the Union government is intensifying its push for energy-efficient cooling solutions. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has urged air-conditioner manufacturers to accelerate the adoption of BEE 5-star-rated models. Hyderabad, with its rapid energy and population growth, has been identified as a key city for promoting BEE 5-star-rated ACs. The city’s population is expected to reach 1.3 crore by 2031, presenting a significant opportunity for energy-efficient cooling solutions.
According to the BEE, replacing older air conditioners with BEE 5-star-rated models could yield significant benefits, including up to 60% energy savings, reduced peak power demand, enhanced grid stability and energy security, major climate impact, and cutting millions of tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
The BEE has called for an industry-led movement to promote energy-efficient cooling, seeking collaboration from manufacturers on a nationwide awareness campaign. The initiative encourages companies to leverage digital marketing, social media and influencer endorsements to educate consumers about the benefits of energy-efficient ACs.
The government’s initiative aims to achieve Net Zero emissions and reduce electricity consumption, ensuring grid stability and energy security. With strategic industry collaboration, India can move towards a more sustainable, energy-efficient future while ensuring consumer savings.

The government integrating Kaveri-2 software adopted by offices of sub-registrars with e-khata software adopted by urban local bodies in a hurry without studying the pros and cons has created many issues for many people in the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). They are not able to register their properties, said D. Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru City South, on Wednesday.
