A girl student who lost her father on the first day of her SSLC examination has been promised help under various government schemes and an Ashraya house for her family by Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. and Navalgund MLA N.H. Konaraddi.
Shabana Pathasu, a resident of Gandhi Bazaar in Navalgund, lost her father Noor Hussain Pathasu on March 21, four hours before her SSLC examination. Amid grief, Shabana attended her examination and participated in the funeral rites only after her finishing first paper.
Shabana’s father used to make a living by selling rugs and bedsheets. Her mother Jannatbi’s mental condition is unstable. Shabana and her three younger sisters are presently under the care of her maternal uncle (mother’s brother).
On Wednesday, Ms. Prabhu, accompanied by Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Bhuvanesh Patil and Mr. Konaraddi, visited Shabana’s residence and promised all help.
Mr. Konaraddi promised to get her an Ashraya house sanctioned and get it built in the next three months. He paid from his pocket the rent of Shabana’s house for the period. He also promised to mobilise funds for paying ₹1 lakh, which the beneficiary of the scheme has to pay.
In a move that will benefit Shabana’s family, orders were issued naming her mother as a beneficiary of a poultry farming scheme of the government. The orders were handed over to the family.
Considering the plight of the family, Ms. Prabhu took special interest and directed the Navalgund Tahsildar to issue orders providing widow pension to Shabana’s mother and they were also handed over to her on Wednesday.
