Over 21.7 lakh people attended Gram Sabha meetings in Tamil Nadu for World Water Day resolutions.
Over 21.7 lakh persons attended Gram Sabha meetings conducted by 12,481 village panchayats on Saturday (March 29, 2025) all over Tamil Nadu to mark World Water Day.
Of the participants, women accounted for nearly 13 lakh and men 8.7 lakh with the third gender being 964. Though scheduled for the original date of March 22, the meetings were postponed to March 29 due to administrative convenience.
One village panchayat - Nergunam in Chengalpattu district - did not hold the meeting for want of quorum.
The meetings adopted around 2.1 lakh resolutions. Among the subjects covered by the resolutions were the preservation of water resources, measures to ensure potable water supply and dissemination of information and knowledge regarding replenishing groundwater resources, water conservation and recycling.
